Description

c. 1942. Portrait of 253939 Flight Lieutenant Leigh "Golden Voice" Vial RAAF. Vial was a coastwatcher and intelligence officer in New Guinea. Vial sometimes flew in the aircraft which dropped propaganda leaflets. During one of these flights in a Liberator aircraft on 30 April 1943 Vial was killed when the aircraft crashed in the Medang-Wewak area. (Original print housed in AWM Archive Store) (Donor R. Piper)
