- It has been speculated that the game was originally developed as an Extreme Championship Wrestling video game, but was reworked into the Legends of Wrestling game shortly after ECW went out of business in 2001.
- There has also been speculation that after ECW went out of business in 2001, the game was initially re-worked into a game tentatively called "Indy Pro Wrestler," in which players would create their own character and work their way up through the ranks of professional wrestling stardom-a claim possibly supported by the game's career mode.
- Hulk Hogan was also the spokesperson for the Legends of Wrestling video game.
