Lee Woods
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lee Woods (b.1964) is the English painter who created the Genetic Zoo *(see below) series of humorous animal paintings.
Woods was born in the Devonport district of Plymouth, England and remained in the South West of England area until moving to the former Federal Republic of Germany at the age of 18.
In 1989, at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Woods returned to study in his native city and obtained a First Class Honours degree from the College of St Mark & St John (affectionately known as Marjons), Plymouth, affiliated to the University of Exeter.
1996 saw Woods establish the Phoenix Studio in the historic Plymouth Barbican area and it was here that the first of the Genetic Zoo series of exhibitions (entitled Unpickled) was held.
The first exhibition was staged in a climate where prevailing concerns included the current Mad Cow Disease epidemic in Britain as well as media controversy over animal cloning and genetic modification.
In 1998, Woods was signed up by a Swiss art publishing company who published his Genetic Zoo animal paintings in 87 countries around the world.
Lee Woods is currently living and working from studios in Paris and Clamecy, France.
