[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Kikstart 2.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Kikstart 2.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 12:30, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Treasure_Island_Dizzy.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Treasure_Island_Dizzy.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 06:08, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Alchemist1.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Alchemist1.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 13:13, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Alchemist1.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Alchemist1.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:28, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] You know what? I can't be bothered any more.

Every time I upload an image it stays for about six months until something like the above happens and then the image is got rid of. Each time I expand my description and select "fair use tags" etc. as best I can at the time. Each time someone else comes along, tells me that I've done it "wrong" and deletes the images, turning the articles in plain-text in the process.

How much more clear than "self-made screenshot" and selecting "this is a copyrighted screenshot of a videogame ... to illustrate an article" can you get? It takes me a long time to load up all these games, get a nice illustrative screenshot, get it into a nice format, upload it, comment it, tag it, put it into an article etc. and each time it gets wipe out by "copyright-police" bots because of some fancy new change to the system or because someone didn't bother to read my image description.

And each time it's a major pain in the backside to figure out just what it is they want fixed and how to put it on the image once it's uploaded. I understand the need for respecting copyright law and I have done at all points to the best of my ability, but with people determined to turn every article which contains even just a single illustrative screenshot into ASCII text, it's just not worth the effort to help maintain the articles.

[edit] Re: Syndicate image

No problem. I just saw it there after an IP removed BetacommandBot's notice on the image, and decided to fix it. Fair use rationales aren't too bad once you get used to them. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 13:32, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Back 2 Skool.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Back 2 Skool.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
