Ledru-Rollin is a station of the Paris Métro, named after the Avenue Ledru-Rollin. The street is named after the lawyer Alexandre Auguste Ledru-Rollin (1807-1874) who was elected as radical député in 1841 and founded the newspaper La Réforme. He was a convinced republican was appointed Minister of the Interior in 1848 and organised the introduction of universal suffrage. Following Napoleon III's election as President and the riots of 1849, he took refuge in England.
