Lebanon High School is a public high school in Lebanon, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Lebanon City School District. Their mascot is the Warrior, and the school logo is the side profile of an American Indian wearing a full feathered headdress. The school colors are Maroon and White with black trim being introduced with the new football jerseys in 2006. Previously, the school colors included black and maize during the 1980s. The school's principal is Dr. Samuel Ison. The high schools population is about 1,600-1,700 kids and the school districts population of kids is around 7,000 kids

The high school moved into its current building on 1916 Drake Road in 2004. From the early 1970s until 2004 it was housed in what is now Lebanon Junior high on 160 Miller Road. Prior to the 1970s Lebanon High School was held in what is now Berry Intermediate School on Oakwood Street.

The current high school is the first phase of a three phase building plan. The second and third phases include an auditorium and additional classroom space. The current building has over 2,200 pieces technology equipment, fully equipped science labs, a media center room, a writing lab, video distribution center, and state-of-the-art band and choral facilities. [1]

Also included in the high school are two collegiate sized gyms (including a state-of-the-art competition gym), health and fitness centers, softball and baseball facilities, a football stadium, and practice facilities for many competitive teams.

[edit] Notable alumni

[edit] Athletics

  • Lebanon High School currently offers 11 men's sports and 12 women's sports. [1]
  • The athletic teams are a member of the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC), which consists of teams in the Greater Dayton area. The Warriors are currently in the South Division along with Springboro, Miamisburg, Fairborn, and Xenia. [2]
  • The football stadium, James VanDeGrift Field, is housed at the site of the old high school, currently Lebanon Junior High School on Miller Road. It has been the home of the Warriors for 35 years and seats 2,600. The District and the community are currently looking to renovate the stadium to be able to compete with neighboring schools. Also at James VanDeGrift Field is the track which is home of the Running Warriors.[3]
  • The baseball stadium, Warrior Field, is also housed at the site of the old high school, Lebanon Junior High School on Miller road. It is constantly considered one of the nicest high school baseball facilities in Southwest Ohio. Unlike other high school stadiums, it has Major-League style dugouts. The field house directly behind home plate holds concessions, equipment, bathroom, and press box facilities.
  • The softball field is also housed at the Lebanon Junior High School location on Miller Road. The softball team has currently won three straight league championships.
  • Both the men's and women's basketball teams play at the high school building in a new arena that seats nearly 2,000. The floor was designed and painted by art teachers Rob Hodges, Tom Russell and the late Gary Simendinger.
  • The wrestling team at Lebanon now has their own practice facility at the high school and dual matches are held in the wrestling room. However, tournaments are held in the auxiliary gym.
  • Both the men's and women's tennis teams practice and play on the tennis courts at the high school. There are six tennis courts that serve the women in the spring and the men in the fall.
  • Shaker Run Golf Course is the home of the men's and women's varsity golf teams. Shaker Run is located on Greentree Road on the outskirts of Lebanon near Middletown. Harmon Golf Club in downtown Lebanon is home to both the men's junior varsity team and the women's team.

[edit] Rivals

  • Currently, Lebanon's biggest rival is Springboro Panthers. The Warriors and Panthers constantly fight for supremacy in the GWOC South Division. In the 2006-2007 academic year, the Warriors held a considerable advantage over the Panthers in the "big sports" (football, basketball, and baseball). The Warriors' football team beat Springboro, the Warriors' basketball team beat the Panthers twice (once on Jason Michelson's memorable last second shot in Springboro's gym), and once in baseball (on Matt Berger's walk-off RBI single). The Warriors were also victorious over Springboro in many other sports including soccer, girls' cross country, softball, and track. The brutality between the Lebanon and Springboro students has led to many interventions between administrators and police. The student sections are now video recorded to ensure safety.
  • The Warriors also have intense rivalries dating back to the 1970s with the Franklin Wildcats and the Mason comets. However, because of Lebanon's bouncing between leagues these two rivalries have died down because the schools rarely play each other.
