[edit] History

Lebanese International University was established in April, 2001, as "The Bekaa University", with its grand campus constructed within the western region of the Beqaa Valley; at Al-Khyara, the West Beqaa (al-Beqaa al-Gharbi).

Having graduated its first Freshman class in June 2002, with a vision of becoming a true national university with international presence, a new campus in Beirut was opened and the name was changed to "Lebanese International University", or LIU in short. Another campus was later built next to Sidon in south Lebanon.

[edit] The Beqaa Campus

The Beqaa campus is located within the western region of the Beqaa Valley. For those living in Beirut, this campuse can be reached by driving through the Beirut-Damascus Expressway. Despite being the first campus to be in service, it is still being expanded and renovated occasionally. More classrooms are being constructed, and it now has a new football field and a swimming pool. Some of these facilities might not be available till 2008. Also, the architectural design of the main building has a striking resemblance to the Grand Serail building, the Prime Minister office in Downtown Beirut.

[edit] The Beirut Campus

The Beirut campus is located within a residential area of Mouseitbeh in west Beirut. It is consisted of two buildings. The first building, as shown on the picture, is Block-A. This building is about five to six stories high, and the office of the campus manager can be found at the fifth floor.

The second building, Block-B, is much larger, and it is about eight stories high. Three stories below, the university has an underground parking space and two auditoria, one of which has recently been converted into a gymnasium. Major facilities for students, such as the registration office, the business office, and student affairs office, are located at the first floor of the building. The university cafeteria can also be found in this story.

[edit] Current development

In September 2006, the university announced the opening of its Yemeni campus in San‘a’[1].

The Lebanese International University is constructing a third block for its Beirut campus, the Block-C, and there are plans to build more campuses in Tripoli, Nabatieh, and in Morocco and Tunisia.

Currently, the university is looking for recruits. It added links for both its Egyptian and Yemeni maps on its homepage, both of which lead to the online résumé. Similar links can be found within the Lebanese facilities of the website.
