"Lean Like a Cholo" is the first single from Down AKA Kilo from his album Definition of an Ese. It debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at #93 in May 2007[1] and has peaked at #34. "Cholo" is a term used in Mexico and the southwestern United States to refer to working class Mexicans and Chicanos, and the titles of some parodies of the song play on this usage either by using other Spanish-language terms or by substituting a different ethnicity for "cholo." The lyrics mostly describe a dance done with "elbows up, side to side", a phrase that is repeated throughout the song. The music video takes place mostly within the confines of a nightclub, and much of the footage consists of superimposition shots. The big body guard from Jose Luis Sin Censura makes a guest appearance.

[edit] Remixes

  • The song "Tatted Like A Cholo" by Tyga uses the same instrumental track.[citation needed]
  • Parodies of the song include;"[citation needed] "Lean Like a Chola" by Carmen;[citation needed] the track "Eat like a Gordo," which played on several Southern California radio stations and can be found around the Internet;[citation needed] and "Like a Whiteboy" by J-ride, featuring Long Beach rapper Dopey.[2]
  • Additionally, an animation video featuring the Latina children's TV character Dora the Explorer used clips to make Dora and other characters appear to be dancing and singing along with "Lean Like a Cholo." Added to YouTube in July 2007, the video had been viewed more than 3 million times as of March 2008.[3]
