This article is about leadership management.

An executive or manager is expected to advise and determine the direction of the company, department or business unit. This takes two pieces of information. Where is the business now? Where is technology, or the market leading the business? You don’t have to follow the market or market leaders, but your direction must be consistent. This is the essence of leadership management.

The effective leader is always in control. When bad things happen to a business, he or she may not have a solution, or any idea of the direction to take.The leaders always stay calm and focused. There’s plenty of time to reflect and make a thoughtful decision. At the onset of a crisis management should take in information and make informed calculated decisions.

Micromanagement is the term used to describe the process by which managers exert too much control over specific projects or people. There are some instances in which leaders must micromanage specific tasks to get a better feel for the project, or to move it along more efficiently. Effective business leadership dictates that this is kept to a minimum.

Business ethics in leadership. Effective and highly successful leaders sometimes have to go against the grain. Making a decision as an individual and going against the group think can save a business from making unethical, or ill informed decisions.

Effective business leadership requires assuming not only control, but responsibility as well. Taking responsibility for business decisions and actions forces the leader to be better informed and prepared when suggesting new lines, or changes in the business structure or operations.

Helping others to become effective leaders requires the delegation of duties and responsibilities. Following this, success should be rewarded commensurate with the level of leadership shown.
