Le Temps (Paris)

Le Temps, ("The Time") published from April 25, 1861 to November 30, 1942, was one of Paris's most important daily newspapers.
The Paris edition lacks issues from May 7-May 19, 1871, due to its being shut down by the Paris Commune[citation needed]. The edition of St. Germain, however, is continuous for 81 years.
Le Temps came out of the Nazi occupation politically compromised, and (keeping the same typeface and layout) Le Monde was founded on November 19, 1944 at the request of General Charles de Gaulle to replace it as the newspaper of record.
