How about León (city) instead of León, León? john 03:21, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I agree--203.20.76.8 06:13, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Bad idea. There are several cities in the world with name Leon.

[edit] Deleted material
I just made some extensive edits to this article, including further wikification and the removal of the following empty sections:
- León Cathedral
- Collegiate Church of San Isidoro
- Convent of San Marcos
The cathedral is mentioned near the beginning of the article; if someone wants to expand on these (or make new pages for them by following the links), go right ahead.
I wasn't sure what was intended by the word "decadence" in the following sentence, so I left it:
- In the 16th century, the economic and demographic decadence set in which continued until the 19th century.
There were some other rough points that I didn't know enough about the subject matter to improve.
Finally, I had no idea how to improve the following sentence, so I just removed it:
- Then prosperity expanded the old city westward beyond its walls and the squares, the Plaza Mayor and the Plaza del Mercado, and the avenues, modern buildings, parks and gardens that extended the city onto the former floodplain.
Uhh... would someone like to tackle that?

Before you can upload an image to the Wikipedia, you have to provide detailed information on both:
- The source of the file:
- If you made it yourself, say so.
- If the file is available online, include a link.
- The copyright holder and the license of the file, including:
- A copyright/license tag, either selected from the drop-down list below or included in the upload summary,
- An explanation of why you believe the file is so licenced, and
- A fair use rationale, if uploading a fair use image.
- If you upload a file here to which you hold the copyright, you must license it under a free license or release it into the public domain.

[edit] Map Coördinates
The longitude and latitude don't correspond to what Google Earth gives me - I've got the same coörds you can find on the French translation. Has someone got a map that can confirm/deny my suspicion?
[edit] Requested move (May 2006)
León, León → León, Spain … Rationale: There are at least two localities which can lay claim to the dab format "León, León"– this one (the capital of the spanish province of León), and León, Nicaragua, capital of León Department. The suggested move will more clearly indicate which city of León is being talked about. (NB: Yes, I'm aware that at present León, Spain serves as a disambig page itself- but as part of this proposal, I don't think that that disambig needs to be preserved (at least, not as a separate page). See for example what is done with Barcelona (the city) and Barcelona (the province)- the city takes the name, other derivative entities are disambiguated as required. All that is needed would be to have a banner saying for other uses, see León (disambiguation)).--cjllw | TALK 08:34, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Anthem
Why has been the link to the Anthem of the City, el Himno a León, deleted?
