[edit] License tagging for Image:CaseWiki1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:CaseWiki1.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:06, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:YellowCApurpleCREB.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:YellowCApurpleCREB+.jpg. The copy called Image:YellowCApurpleCREB+.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 15:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:110-5national.jpg

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:110-5national.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Kesac 00:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Specifically, the license on the page provided states "for non-profit educational purposes". Kesac 00:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ...and regarding your images

Please stop uploading pin insulator pictures which are taken from your friend's website. They are not usable on Wikipedia because the website they came from is copyrighted. Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted works (text or image). If you still want to use these pictures, ask your friend to release them under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License - basically it requires the creator or copyright holder to let anyone distribute and change the pictures for any purpose (noncommercial or commercial).

If you upload any more copyrighted pictures, we might have no choice but to restrict your uploading and editing ability. Thanks. Resurgent insurgent 01:33, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your media copyright question

You said:

"In case you haven’t see it yet, my reply to your question at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions is now archived here --teb728 (talk) 09:11, 26 November 2007 (UTC)"

RESPONSE - I said: "These pics were made by me, of my own material, and, like it APPEARS to say on the upload page, were listed as my own work being released for anyone to use anywhere for any reason. Yes, there were some that are from a couple different websites - and I also stated they were being used with permission. The options that you gave as tags did not wholly fit the actual situation involving the pics so I thought the included explanation was what was needed. Please consider making the tags being built from single-option checkboxes, rather than combining multiple conditions into one check box."

Once again, being a person with little time to be on the internet, I hope this reply is being put in the right place. A simple "Post reply" link would be greatly appreciated/useful.

I can understand why the pictures from my friends website were deleted (the ones that were for educational use only), but why delete:

1. The whole page of my text (or at least the applicable parts of the text which did not have pictures and/or references to pictures);

2. My own original pics (with notes plainly attached to them that they were my work; of my own insulators; and I was freely releasing them for anyone to do anything with)?

Your reply to my letter was:

"You know, the editors who answer questions on this page don’t get paid for doing so; so you are lucky you found one who was willing to read through your rant.
You have been getting image messages on your talk page since 7 September, and three of them, including the first directed you to this page. If you had come here before those images were deleted, we might have been able to advise you.
At least one of the messages on your talk page complained that the permission on the image was for “for non-profit educational purposes.” Wikipedia does not accept permission unless it permits reuse by anybody for anything. Perhaps the reason no option was offered for what you wanted to do is that what you wanted to do is not permitted.
If a copyright owner is willing to license reuse by anyone for anything, see WP:COPYREQ for how you can handle that. --teb728 (talk) 04:35, 18 November 2007 (UTC)"
I can appreciate the fact that the editors are on their own free time. I am, therefore, thankful that you did make an attempt to answer a part of the problem.
One thing that may help in future situations is not assuming people visit the Wikipedia website every day, week, or month. I had not seen the contribution I made since before the Sept. date which you quote. I did not have time to do much with a computer since then. You can, therefore, imagine my surprise when I could no longer find ANY of the contribution - even the material that I submitted close to two years ago. During those two years I had gone to the site to revise/update the material I had formerly submitted. It was all there. Then, after posting some new pictures with a new link, EVERYTHING was gone. Your reply did not address why this (older, and therefore, supposedly OK material) was all of a sudden deemed troublesome and therefore was deleted. Considering it was text (no pictures), I was very surprised to see it was gone.
Yes, I was angry when I saw the submission was gone b/c, as it seems, you deleted all of the material w/out taking time to see that not all of it (especially the almost-two-year-oldtext) was gone. And, there was no easy way to find out why.
Another part not addresses is the user-friendliness. Why not make simple links for replies, etc. (as quoted in my reply)? I have a feeling there would be a lot more contributions of important material by knowledgeable people if they did not have to wade through page after page of instructions. Yes, there ARE guidelines NEEDED, but there sure are a lot simpler ways of presenting the information (such as my suggestion of Check boxes beside tags - rather than pre-writing the conditions of the tag as this situation makes some pics not fall into any category).
I still would appreciate a response to the above - these are the points that made the main difference in the way I wrote the first reply.

Thank you for your time. Lee
