LBR (file format)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The .LBR file format was an old type of archive file format used on MS-DOS and CP/M operating systems during the early 1980s. .LBR files were created by the LU program. LBR is an abbreviation of "Library", and the LU program simply stored files in the LBR file, the files were not compressed. As transfer of LBR files by modem was common, it was typical practice for files which were to be stored in an LBR archive to either compress them using the SQ program then store them in an LBR archive, or store the files in the archive, then use SQ to compress the archive.
An LBR archive file which was compressed by SQ had the extension ".LQR".
With the development of the ARC archiver which both compressed and archived files in one program, the .LBR archive format became obsolete.
[edit] Libra
Today, the .LBR file format is now used by Libra, a DVD, book, CD and games library program for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
