Layla Hamilton (レイラ・ハミルトン Reira Hamiruton?) is a fictional character of the anime series Kaleido Star. She is voiced by Sayaka Ohara in the Japanese version, by Sandra Krasa in the English version and Mónica Valencia in the Spanish version (Latin America).
[edit] Description
Layla is an accomplished performer at Kaleido Stage. Just like Sora, Layla was taken to Kaleido Stage by her parents to see the show Alice in Wonderland. She joined Kaleido Stage at age 14, because it was the only way she could remember her deceased mother who enjoyed that place. Her father is a rich yet work-a-holic Stage sponsor who, despite genuinely caring for his daughter, clashes with her since he'd rather have her as a Broadway actress than as a Kaleido Stage performer.
At first, she plays the role of an antagonist, because she doesn't stand Sora on stage, claiming that amateurs don't belong to the stage. To see if she is worthy to stay, Layla challenges her to do The Golden Phoenix, being the only person that knows how to execute it. After Sora executed The Phoenix, Layla allowed her to stay at Kaleido Stage, revealing that she believes in a second chance (even in the show Cinderella, she told Sora, Mia and Anna that she could do an ad-lib if they do a mistake on stage to cover it). Slowly, more sides of her are revealed: she's actually as hard on herself as she is on Sora and others, and she's also in shaky grounds with her father.
Later, Layla is chosen by The Stage to execute The Mystical Act with Sora. The training is done at the Grand Canyon with Kalos. There, Layla seriously injured her shoulder by doing supplementary training to lose weight. After attempting the Mystical Act, she gives up the circus and goes to Broadway like her father wants. She's the lead of a show called Salome in Vegas, and some time later she returns and challenges Sora for the role of Odette from Swan Lake. Her final show resembles the rebirth of the Phoenix.
