Lax is a municipality in the district of Goms in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The name Lax is derived from the latin word "lacus" meaning lake. Back in the days there were so many farmers and even more cows in Lax, so that all the liquids would accumulate in a lake during the winter months. The lake was considered everything but tourist friendly, thus the locals decided to get rid of it.
To set the record straight. LAX, Los Angeles International Airport, has nothing to do with this pristine Alpine village. Quite to the contrary, one can actually breathe fresh air in Lax. As to the L.A. Lakers - they also got their name elsewhere, even though one might think on a first glance that there might be some mythological link "lacus"- "lake"- "strong farmers"....
