Talk:Law Society of Scotland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Details of an edit war on this site were published on Page 3 of today's Scotland on Sunday, which pointed out that one of the parties, 217.30.115.210 (talk · contribs), was from the Law Society itself. The critical material was not specifically sourced so I did not add it back, but I would still say that the edits by 217.30, which were made without any explanation or declaration of interest, were contrary to WP:COI.

I noticed a subsequent edit that deleted several links without explanation, so I attempted to revert this edit. The attempt was unsuccessful because one of these links was to a site which is (imo correctly) not accepted by Wikipedia. I then checked out the remaining links:

Added this back. I don't think this is inappropriate, but if it is, then so is the linked page, which should be considered for deletion.

Completely harmless and wholly appropriate. Added it back.

groups.msn.com is not accepted by Wikipedia, and I have no intention of challenging this policy.

Covered by above link. No need to duplicate.

  • Scottish Consumer Council, Scotland's consumer protection body, which has conducted surveys into the workings of Scottish solicitors and the Law Society of Scotland

Low relevance; I was unable to find the surveys via this link. Not added back.

I repeat my position: as long as there is a Scotland Against Crooked Lawyers page on Wikipedia, is is approporaite and in order to link it to Law Society of Scotland. The persistent attempts to delete this link by the Law Society of Scotland contravene WP:COI and WP:OWN, and amount to censorship which I will continue to oppose, at least until the case for deleting the link is atated here, on this discussion page. It would be interesting to know something more about the organization. I can't make out much from its website. There is question about its notability - how big is it? How significant? I'm not a Scots lawyer so I really don't know. Francis Davey (talk) 09:50, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Hmm. There is something interesting here. It would appear that all the edits to Law Society of Scotland by 82.41.10.217 (talk · contribs) were made outside noraml working hours, while those by 217.30.115.210 (talk · contribs) are being made within normal working hours. Could these two IPs be being operated by the same individual?? Viewfinder (talk) 19:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I decided that I had better not be provoked into reinstating this edit. 217.30.115.210 (talk · contribs) and (sockpuppet?) 82.41.10.217 (talk · contribs), declare your interest and make your case here. Scotland Against Crooked Lawyers make serious allegations. If they are correct then SACL should be linked. If they are not, nominate the SACL page for deletion or sue SACL for defamation.
