Lawson Baronets

There have been six Baronetcies created for people with the name of Lawson. Only one of them is currently extant - Lawson (Now Howard-Lawson) of Brough Hall.

Created 30 September 1831 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Extinct 6 November 1959.

The Baronetcy of Lawson of Brough Hall, Yorkshire was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on the 8th of September, 1841 for Sir William Lawson, 1st Bt.

Sir William Lawson was the son of John Wright of Kelvedon. John Wright was married to Elizabeth Lawson (the daughter of Sir John Lawson, 5th Bt (of the first Lawson Baronetcy created 6th July, 1665 extinct 1834). Sir William (Wright) Lawson assumed the Lawson name.

The 3rd Lawson Baronet, Sir Henry Joseph Lawson married Ursula Mary Howard in 1899. She was the only living heir of Philip John Canning Howard, of Corby Castle, Cumberland who was descended from Sir Francis Howard, son of Lord William Howard, who was the 3rd son of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk.

Sir John Howard-Lawson, 6th Baronet, assumed by Royal Licence in 1962 the Howard name and arms and then resumed use of the Lawson name in 1992.[1]

While the Seat of the Lawson Baronetcy is Brough Hall, this was left to the family of the 4th Lawson Baronet, who had four daughters. The title passed to his younger brother William and the seat moved to Corby Castle, Cumbria, ancestral home of the Howard family . William had four children, John Lawson (later Howard-Lawson), Hugh Lawson, Mark Lawson and Mary Frances Smithers (nee) Lawson.

John Phillip Howard-Lawson and his late wife, Veronica Howard-Lawson (nee Marsh), had two sons and a daughter - Philip Howard, Thomas Howard and Julia Howard.
