He has played for many clubs including Kettering Town, Leicester City, Hull City, Northampton Town, Notts County, Southend United and Boston United. Lawrie started off his career as a trainee at Kettering Town, before being signed by Leicester City where he only made 2 appearances as sub, the manager sent him out on loan to Chesterfield F.C. and Lincoln City F.C.. In 4 appearances for Chestefield he scored 3 goals. By this time Hull City were sniffing around Lawrie and eventually signed him for £250,000. He spent 2 seasons at Hull playing 39 times and scoring 13 goals. He then fell out of favour with the manager and was sent out on loan to Northampton, who like what they saw and signed him on a free transfer. He spent 1 season at Northampton Town playing 8 times and scored 1 goal. Then he went to Southend United on loan and eventually signed for them scoring 9 goals in 29 games. Northampton wanted Lawrie back and he played twice before leaving for Boston United where he played 21 games and scored 5 goals.

Notts County signed Dudfield in the summer of 2006, having been released by Boston United. He signed a two-year contact, which will keep him there until the summer of 2008. On 15th May he was released by the club and was instantly linked with a return back at Kettering Town. Dudfield himself is said to be extremely flattered to be linked with the poppies, and that he would love to re-join them. A statement from Kettering Town FC is yet to be made.
