Lawrence West is a station on the Yonge-University Spadina line of the subway system in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located on William R. Allen Road at 655 Lawrence Avenue West. It opened in 1978 in what was then the Borough of North York. Nearby landmarks include the Lawrence Square Shopping Centre and the Lawrence Heights Community Recreation Centre. The station is located in the median of Allen Road (above ground) underneath the Lawrence Avenue bridge; the entrances (on both sides of the road, both allowing access to staffed and automatic entrances) and bus station are located on the bridge itself.
One of two Toronto Transit Commission bus lines that provide regular service to Toronto Pearson International Airport, the 58 Malton, originates from this station.
The artwork Spacing... Aerial Highways is located at the Lawrence Avenue entrance.
The station will become fully accessible by early 2008.
This station has one of the highest crime rate in the subway system, due in part by its proximity to housing projects to the north of the station, along with Lansdowne, Warden, and Kennedy stations.[1]
