[edit] Intro

Australian Painter and Printmaker in the media of water-colour, drawing, screenprints, etchings and monotypes

"One of the grand masters of the Australian art scene" - from the introduction to a major retrospective at The Adelaide Festival, Feb-March 2008: Lawrence Daws, Paintings, Drawings, Prints, 1947 - 2007.

Lawrence Daws is one of Australia's most respected and successful living artists. His work has mostly been landscapes, of desert, of cold green Tasmanians forests and of tropical rainforests of Queensland. Words such as "dreamlike" and "foreboding" are often used when his work is described. Daws work references many intellectual sources from fields such literature and psychology, and often his landscapes clearly illustrate the emotions and psychic states of characters or his own mind.

Lawrence Daws grew up on the desert-like Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, and has lived since 1970 in the glasshouse mountains at Beewah on the edge of a Queensland Rainforest. Lawrence Daws is 80 years old in 2008.
