Lawrence Central High School (LCHS) is a high school with 2,306 students, in northeast Marion County, Indianapolis, Indiana. It was established at its current location in 1963. It is one of two high schools in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township. LCHS is ethnically diverse, with a student population that is 58% white, 35% black, 3% Hispanic, 2% Asian and 3% multiracial (2005 figures). Lawrence Central's rival high school is Lawrence North High School
Currently Lawrence Central is currently remodeling its facilities by completely removing the North Gymnasium and rebuilding a multi-level gym with suspended three lane track. The construction is slotted for completion at the end of 2009. The South gym which is currently the only functional gymnasium is often referred to as "The Dome". The "Dome" was the first high school dome in America built in 1964.

The school officially joined the International Baccalaureate Programme in July 2003. In 2005 it claimed above-average graduation and attendance rates of 96.1% and 97.3% respectively.

LC athletic teams have enjoyed success, including recent state titles in Baseball and both Men's and Women's Track and Field. Past success in Conference Indiana has been enjoyed by the football team, with several championships in the early 2000s as well as a season-ending 2nd place in Conference Indiana ranking in 2004. With a State champion women's track team, County champion men's basketball team. The Men's Track and Field team won state championships in 1998 and 2005. The Gymnastics team has enjoyed success in previous years with Ashley Jacob named as Indiana's 2006 Indiana All-Around Gymnast. The LC gymnastic's team won its first team state title in 2007. LC has also enjoyed the presence of sectional, regional and state individual wrestling, men's and women's track champions.

The Lawrence Central Marching Band (the "Spirit of Central") is a two-time Bands of America Grand National Champion having won awards in 2001 and 2004 and National Runner-Up in 2002. They have also won the ISSMA State Marching Band Champions in 1997, 1998, and in 2000. The marching band has also performed in multiple parades, including the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day parade in 1996 and 2002, The Hollywood Christmas Parade in 1999, the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2005, the 2006 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the 2008 Fiesta Bowl Parade. The Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra at Lawrence Central also both won their respective titles as ISSMA State Champions in 2005, as they have on a few occasions in the past, including a recent 2008 win. Lawrence Central is also home to two award-winning show choirs, "Central Sound" and "Sweet Sensation," Thespians, Winter Guard, and Jazz Ensemble, as well as an award-winning speech team. In 2006, the band received 6th place at BOA Grand National Finals and won the coveted Visual Caption; the third time the band has done so.
The Lawrence Central Performing Arts Association ([1]) is the "umbrella" parent-teacher organization which engages families in activities involving each or all of the performing arts programs. It provides a novel approach through collaborative support, uniting all members in activities, regardless of which group their child is in, to benefit the program as a whole. Activities include fundraising, volunteerism, and public relations. The Website in the above link is updated weekly to keep families informed.
