Law Enforcement Purple Heart
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Law Enforcement Purple Heart is a generic term to describe a United States law enforcement medal which may be issued to any police officer who is wounded or killed in the line of duty. The term is based on the Purple Heart Medal issued by the United States armed forces.
To be awarded the Police Purple Heart, an officer must be wounded or killed as the result of a confrontation with a criminal and not be accidental death or injury. As the Police Purple Heart is issued by several different local police agencies, exact criteria for issuance vary.
