Lavinia Arguelles

Lavinia Arguelles is a fictional character portrayed by Angelika dela Cruz in the ABS-CBN sineserye Bituing Walang Ningning.

In the original movie version, Lavinia was played by Cherie Gil, who uttered one of the most memorable lines in Philippine cinema history: "You're nothing but a second rate, trying hard copycat!"

In the television series remake, Lavinia is a struggling singer with a stage mother, Barbara and a rebellious teen sister, Rita. Lavinia gets closer to singing phenomenon Rosa Mia Suarez. Barbara is jealous of their relationship and connives with Larry Calma to take Rosa Mia off the top spot. The plan is successful when Lauro Calma, Larry's father dies of a heart attack and Larry is left in charge of the record company. Lavinia has a change in character and becomes the #1 singer in the Philippines. However, unknown to Lavinia, she faces a much bigger battle and enemy in the form of Dorina Pineda.

The movie doesn't show how Lavinia becomes the villain, nor her family. Lavinia was romantically involved with Nico Escobar, played by Christopher de Leon.
