This was the derogatory comments posted that I removed from the site:

[edit] Perceptions of Laurel

Neighboring towns around Laurel often view the town as being full of "white trash", so the town of Laurel is the butt of many jokes in Southwestern Indiana.

Agree with Chris, I grew up in Laurel years ago and was subject to such comments. They usually came from the people in the towns a few miles up the road. After leaving and completing an education abroad and traveling all over the world I returned to the area and immediately noticed it was no different than the other towns in the area. The area is in bad economic decline and the future is bleak at best for Connersville, Laurel and Brookville. Also please note that Laurel is in Southeastern Indiana. Not Southwestern Indiana. Seems the writer was too busy looking down their nose to look at a map? Roger
