Laurie Stark was the winner of the Ms. Southern States Bodybuilding Championship held in 1988 (the competition was held in Miami, Florida). She was the representative for the AFWB (American Federation of Women Bodybuilders) and is notable for helping to define the criteria for women's body building competitions. After years of being a personal trainer and fitness instructor, Laurie developed her own brand of fitness classes, integrating dance,movement and strength. In 1991, Laurie began taking yoga classes. By 2003 she became a certified yoga teacher and since then has created YESYOGA, a style of yoga that unites both strength and fluidity, something she was known for throughout her bodybuilding career. She also co-teaches Yoga/Solid Core, a class that combines functional training with yoga.
