Operatic soprano and lead vocalist Laurie Ann Haus was born into a musical household in Wheaton, Maryland. Her physicist father plays classical guitar and owns a massive record collection. Her mother has a highly refined musical ear and has sung in choirs most of her life.
Laurie's interest in music as a career began with a part-time job booking musical acts for Phantasmagoria, a popular nightclub specializing in heavy metal, and another doing marketing for Relapse Records. It was not long before she abandoned the business and politics of music to create it herself. Before entering college she began studying opera, and once there majored in classical voice with a focus on the Renaissance repertoire.
Laurie Haus began her performance career as a backup vocalist for Rain Fell Within (Dark Symphonies). Her classical training suited her well for the band's musical style. The wide range and ethereal beauty of her voice was first recorded in "Passing Time" (Refuge album). Simultaneously Laurie played live keys, and sang back up vocals with the band Garden of Shadows (Earache/Wicked World Records)
After Rain Fell Within disbanded, Laurie's musical world blossomed. Laurie joined former Rain Fell Within band members as lead vocalist to form Ephemeral Sun, an experimental, progressive metal band. In line with the band's free form ideals, Laurie experiments with a wide range of singing styles, ranging from world music to classical. Laurie's experimental vocals can be heard on the Ephemeral Sun Demo, Prototype 19.5. In Laurie's chillingly beautiful performance on the song "Windrunners," by keyboardist John Battema(on his solo Melting Culture album), for instance, she experiments with a wailing Middle Eastern sound.
In August 2006 Laurie decided to move on from Ephemeral Sun to focus her time working on her solo album and other projects featured here:
- Autumn Tears- a neoclassical, dark-wave project on Dark Symphonies Records, as a solo, background vocalist on their upcoming album, Eclipse, to be released in Summer '04.
- Todesbonden-a classical, renaissance influenced doom-metal band created by Laurie, she will be playing keys, composing over all song sound and singing on this project. It plans on taking the listener on an epic emotion filled journey of emotional catchy sounds.
- Ol Sonuf- a symphonic classically influenced black/power/doom metal band created by Jason Aaron Wood (ex-Rain Fell Within, ex-Ephemeral Sun) in which she will being doing solo and back vocals alongside Jason.
- Nest- a nature-folk project created by the Finnish musician A.Tolonen (Shape of Despair, The Mist and the Morning Dew).
- Azure Emote- and industrial metal project created by Mike Hrubovcak (Divine Rapture, Vile)
Laurie Ann Haus is currently working on an atmospheric solo album, drawing on her wide experience with Indian, Middle Eastern, Bulgarian, Mexican, Celtic, Old English folk, European Renaissance, Western classical, and ethereal rockmusical traditions.
