[edit] 8.22

8.22 is currently the latest version; it's just that not many have it. Kudos to Bruce89 for thinking of putting them all in, though. E-mail from Austin, dated 17th of November to the X-Plane news list (emphasis mine):

OK, every time I post anything to this list I get lots of replies from people... and my posts last night on the PRESUMED situations with DVDs, hard drives, and elevation maps, followed by the REAL situation with those things (predictably) sparked some confusion.

So, here it is straight, to be clear:

The first email I sent listed everyones ASSUMPTIONS about these things. (including my own at the begnning of this project)The second email listed the REAL state of these matters. (as i have learned from the last few weeks of development)

So there you have it: first email: incorrect assumtions, second email: actual status. I'll bet that almost NO ONE suspected that all of their assumptions were wrong until they got the second email!!!!!

Now, a common question was: How LONG does it take to install the scenery?

The answer is as follows:

The 7dvd set include a cd with the USA and X-Plane 8.22 on it (8.22 is 8.21 plus a few little tweaks) On my mid-range windows computer and older powerbook, i get an X-PLANE cd install time of about one and a half hours. On the scenery DVDs it is about half that (PER DVD). On a faster windows machine with it's faster dvd drive, we are getting speeds that are a good bit higher than that. (i think the dvd speed is a bit more limiting than the hard drive speed here)

Another common answer was: How much will it cost? The answer is that FOR EXISTING CUSTOMERS, it will be pretty close to our cost for the whole deal.. probably $29, though I still have to figure out a little better what all of our costs really ARE on this, but I am shooting to keep it UNDER $30 for existing customers.

So those are the common issues people asked my about... screenshots and stuff to follow as we get them! (see www.global-scenery.org for some prelims)
