Lattice steel pylon

A lattice steel pylon is an electricity pylon consisting of a steel framework construction. Lattice steel pylons are used for powerlines of all voltages. For lines with operating voltages over 50kV, lattice steel pylons are the form of pylon used most often.

A lattice steel pylon is usually screwed together from individual parts at the place where it is to be erected. This makes very high constructions possible (generally up to 100 metres — in special cases even higher, as in the Elbe crossing 1 and Elbe crossing 2. In addition, the assembly of lattice steel pylons can be done using a crane, often with some kind of pulley. Lattice steel pylons generally consist of angle-profiled steel beams (L- or T-beams). Tubing lattice constructions are rare in Germany. For very high lattice steel pylons, in particular for the lower parts, trusses are often used. Lattice steel pylons can be dismantled if necessary and be rebuilt at a new location, but in practice this is only possible with pylons which are in good condition.
