The famed Latonia Race Track, one of the south's premiere thoroughbred racing facilities from the late 19th through early 20th centuries was located in Latonia, and drew the best horses, jockeys and trainers to its events. (The site of the defunct track is today partly occupied by the Latonia Shopping Center.)
