[edit] Biography
Latense was formed by former members of bands No Pain For Cakes, Mantennas Funk Federation, The Blue Garden, and Earl Gray. Initially a trio, the music swayed between different styles and forms, never really taking a defining shape. Something the would later become a trade mark of the band's music.
Influenced by such diverse artists as Prince, Sonic Youth, Captain Beefheart, Metallica, Jeff Buckley, Miles Davis, Faith No More, Living Colour, Funkadelic, John Coltrane, John Zorn, Slayer, and many more, Latense tried to create a musical hydrid where songs and improvisation could co-exist. On their 2000 release, The Great Fuck-Up, styles are mixed frequently - but not as much in songs and within the concept of one style. This would become apparent in later material. The album was very well received critically[2].
The demos following the album exposed the mixture between song-writing and free improvisation more fully than perhaps the album. In 2002-2003 the group began to disintegrate and soon after was formally put on hold. Late in 2007, Latense decided to start rehearsals again.
