Late of the Pier are an English four-piece band from Castle Donington, currently signed to Parlophone Records. They have released three singles to date (Space and the Woods/Heartbeat, Bathroom Gurgle/VW and The Bears are Coming), with an album scheduled for release in 2008, preceded by a re-recorded single release of Space and the Woods, teamed with double A-side 'Focker' on May 19 2008.

They have garnered a large teenage fanbase from playing All Ages club nights, even playing the first ever Underage Festival, in August 2007.

Lead singer Samuel Eastgate also has a side-project, La Priest, often written incorrectly as LA Priest. He has numerous productions and has made several remixes, as well as having the song "Engine" being remixed by Erol Alkan and released via Erol’s Phantasy Sound label.

[edit] History

Late of the Pier formed in 2005. They released their bedroom recordings, the fourteen-track Zarcorp Demo through their myspace page for free.

Their debut single, Space And The Woods, was released through WayOutWest Records in March 2007, with the b-side A Heartbeat. A Flicker. A Line (previously known as '7Beat' or 'Heartbeat' from the Zarcorp Demo). This was limited to 500 copies only.

Their second single, Bathroom Gurgle, was produced by Erol Alkan and released in September 2007 by Moshi Moshi Records, with b-side VW. Like their previous release, this was also limited to 500 copies.

An edit of Broken appeared on the Kitsune Maison 5 compilation credited as the Fairy Lights mix[1]. However, this was just an edit of the track by the band, with no such act as Fairy Lights existing.[2]

Their third single, The Bears Are Coming, was released on 12" and download only, with 7" versions being sold exclusively on their February tour with a demo version of Piss Hands on the b-side. This was released through their own Zarcorp label. The 12" release features remixes by Emperor Machine, Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve and Joakim, along with the original.[3]

They recently released their fourth single - a double A-side including new versions of 'Space and the Woods' and 'Focker' - on May 19 2008, following a headline slot on the Levi's Ones To Watch tour. It is available on CD single, as well as 7" and 12" vinyl.

They have opened 2007's Carling Weekend on the NME/Radio One stage[4], and have performed support slots for Hadouken![5] and Soulwax[6] on recent tour dates.

They have completed the recording of their debut album 'Fantasy Black Channel', which will be released by Parlophone in August 2008[7].

[edit] Musical Style

Their style has often been compared to the artists Gary Numan, Brian Eno, Frank Zappa and the more contemporary Metronomy and Klaxons, mainly due to the prominent use of synthesisers in their music and lyrical similarities with the latter[8].

[edit] Zarcorp Demo

The Zarcorp Demo was a popular download given away, in 2006, for free by the band[9]. It was in some respects a low quality digital album. The track listing varied between upload, but the complete demo contained:
