The airline was established in 1992 and started operations on 1993. It was founded to operate charter services from Riga and began operations with a leased Tupolev Tu-134B. In 2006 LatCharter agreed to cooperate with Loftleiðir Icelandic, the charter and ACMI arm of Icelandair Group, which led to the acquisition of a majority 55% shareholding in LatCharters stock in July 2006 with a commitment to buy the remaining shares in the future. It was founded by four professional pilots, is privately owned and has 100 employees (at March 2007).[1]
