  • AWM Caption: BATHURST CLASS MINESWEEPER/CORVETTE HMAS LATROBE. COMMISSIONED ON 6TH NOVEMBER 1942 LATROBE SPENT HER WAR SERVICE CARRYING OUT MINESWEEPING, CONVOY, PRISONER OF WAR EVACUATION AND TROOP CARRYING DUTIES. AFTER THE WAR SHE WAS BASED AT WESTERNPORT, VICTORIA AS A TRAINING SHIP. ON 18TH MAY 1956 LATROBE WAS SOLD AS SCRAP TO HONG KONG ROLLING MILLS LTD. LATROBE WAS ONE OF ONLY TWO RAN SHIPS LAUNCHED BY A MAN.
