The Longfellow Aeronautics and Space Administration or LASA Scramblers is a rocketry team from Longfellow Middle School. In the 2006-2007 fiscal year, LASA competed in the Team America Rocketry Challenge 2007. The goal was to create a rocket that could reach an altitude of 850 feet and return to earth in 45 seconds; while carrying a hen's egg. LASA had one of the highest scores in the nation and set a new record for Longfellow Middle School.

LASA was formed in late 2006. The team consisted of brilliant seventh and eighth graders, with a passion for rockets. The team started out with simple kits and build small rockets using small engines. Afterwards, the team began designing their award winning rockets. With exact precision and great care, the rockets were built and brought to life.

April 19, 2007: LASA gets one of the highest scores in the nation!
Today, the Longfellow Aeronautics and Space Administration competed in the Team America Rocketry Challenge in The Plains, Virginia. At Goddard 5 around 14:15 EST, LASA's honorable rocket launched, accomplishing 862 feet and having a total flight time of 45.28 seconds. The 59.9 gram egg returned safely with no damage or cracks. LASA came 14th in the nation with a score of 12.28, in a competition of around 600 teams. Being in the top 25, LASA has been invited to a competition involving the creation of a rocket that is to reach an altitude of one mile. More information on this competition coming soon.

April 18, 2007: One day 'til finals!
Tomorrow is the day LASA goes to the finals. The orientation will be held today, explaining the rules of TARC Finals. LASA will launch between 13:30 and 14:30 EST.

April 13, 2007: LASA to Finals!
Well, it's official; Team 5545 from Longfellow Middle School; the Longfellow Aeronautics and Space Administration has successfully made to TARC finals! LASA scored an 11.72 in the qualification launch with the backup rocket (after the first one blew up). This score was amongst the top 100 in the nation, thus taking LASA to nationals. TARC Finals will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 in The Plains, Virginia.
