The Russian game is played as a variant of Russian checkers(8x8 board, men capture backwards, kings are long-range) and in a book printed in 1875 it was already mentioned as an old and well-known game (see Башни или туры//Сборник игр для семьи и школы. Ред.Вал.Висковатов. Издание А.Черкесов и Ко, 1875 г. С.Петербург.) Pre-existence of the game in Russia could also be palpable in a tradition to represent a king piece in regular checkers as a man turned up side down and not by covering it with another piece.
