The Megami Tensei Gaiden Last Bible (女神転生外伝 ラストバイブル?) series is a side-story of Megami Tensei that is told through handheld games.
The series serves as part of the Megami Tensei franchise targeted at younger players of the Gameboy console; this purpose is later passed on to the Devil Children series. The "Last Bible" part is actually a misnomer, with the game having very little to do with the Holy Bible except for the major antagonist being Lucifer. The games are set in an imaginary world with strong fantasy elements. Last Bible is also far lower in tone compared to other Megaten games due to the use of the term "monster"(Majuu(魔獣)) instead of "devil/demon"(Akuma(悪魔)).
The Last Bible games have a system of obtaining monsters unique from any other Megaten game. To get new members, during any normal battle, you must talk to a monster. Unlike normal Megami Tensei games, monsters in the Last Bible series are not stored on a computer and there is no classification or races of monsters except for Last Bible 3 for the Super Famicom.
The development of the games are by Multimedia Intelligence Transfer.

Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible (女神転生外伝 ラストバイブル?) (Revelations: The Demon Slayer in the US) was published and developed by Atlus and is part of the Megami Tensei series. The game originally came out in Japan in 1992. It never came out in Europe or Australia. In the U.S., it was re-released on the Game Boy Color in 1999. Also, Sega released a version of the game for the Game Gear. The Game Gear version is called Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special.
The fighting is in a very traditional RPG style, not unlike in Dragon Quest games. A few biblical allusions exist in this game. The game seems to not have had much mainstream success in the USA.
[edit] Story
Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible is a side-game (gaiden) of the Megami Tensei universe. The humans in this game can call on the power of Gaia. The main hero, El, learns the art of Gaia and must save the world from an evil Gaia master, assisted by his friends Kishe and Uranus.
[edit] Setting
The world in which this game takes place is a fairly cliché RPG world: this world is one of mostly medieval towns with a subtle hint of technology here and there with exotic topography. This is unlike the other Megami games, which are set in modern or a futuristic Japan.
[edit] Gameplay
This game uses very basic RPG fighting mechanics, with turn-based battles with experience points and gold awarded at the end of each. Also, similar to Pokemon, monsters can be asked to join the main party, but unlike Pokemon, the monsters fight alongside the three main adventurers. The monsters are also much less cute, and more along the lines of Final Fantasy type enemies.
To capture the monster, the player talks to the monster. If El talks, the player must answer a series of questions, without knowing outcome, that the monster asks. If successful, the monster will join. If not, the monster will attack. If any member other than El talks, there is a random chance that the monster will join. The option of bribing is impossible and like all Megaten games, there are some monsters/demons that can never join you, such as the Killer Bee, Skeleton, Zordon, Dullahan, and any monster fought during a boss battle. Monsters can be combined to, usually, create stronger monsters.

Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible II (女神転生外伝 ラストバイブルII) is a Japan-only RPG from Atlus. The game is the second in the Megami Tensei Gaiden series, which is a small section of the Megami Tensei series.
The game was originally released for the Game Boy in 1993. It was then rereleased for the Game Boy Color in 1999, much like Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible was.
[edit] Story
In Magoku (マゴク, lit. Demon Country), only one baby was born one night. This is a sign that the revival of a godly power called Gryas will occur. Fifteen years later, Yuri, the main character and student of the powers of Gaia is recruited by the King of Magoku to destroy the ever approaching Gryas.
[edit] Setting
Unlike most Megami Tensei games, which take place in a modern Japanese world, Last Bible II takes place in Magoku, a more medieval, fantasy world, along the lines of Dragon Quest. Last Bible features a similar world.
[edit] Gameplay
Last Bible II is very similar to Last Bible in terms of gameplay. The game features standard RPG turn-based battles, leveling up, etc. Like the other gaiden games, the player can recruit monsters by speaking to them. Different phases of the moon affect the conversations with the monsters, and questions must be answered correctly to recruit the monster.

Last Bible III (ラストバイブルIII) is a Japan-only RPG from Atlus. This game is part of the Megami Tensei Gaiden, a gaiden series of the Megami Tensei series. Unlike the first two Last Bible games, this one was only released once, and for a non-portable system.
[edit] Story
The game opens with a man, Alek, wandering around in a snowy wasteland, convinced of his death. He eventually finds an entrance to the Demon World and collapses. As he collapses, he remembers his friend, Glenn, and the news of a child.
This child is the main character, a blue haired boy named Ciel (Shieru). He begins his adventure by leaving his hometown and gets caught up in a large RPG story. Ciel must fulfill an ancient prophecy and defeat a great evil, with the help of his friends and recruited monsters.
[edit] Setting
Like in most Megami Tensei Gaiden games, Last Bible III takes place in a medieval, fantasy world instead of a modern Japanese one, which is in most Megami Tensei games.
[edit] Gameplay
Last Bible III features basic RPG elements (leveling up, items, turn-based battles). Like in the other two Last Bibles, the player can recruit monsters. However, this game takes a step further and allows the player to customize monsters. Monsters can be equipped with items and level up just like human characters. A new feature during battle is a gauge that tells the player how close a monster is to being recruited. Recruitment of monsters requires correct answers of a few questions.
