Lass Ihn

"Lass Ihn" (Let Him), was the Swiss entry of the Eurovision Song Contest in the year 1998. The singer was Gunvor, who wore a sleeveless, glittering dark red dress for her Eurovision appearance. The song was an ultimatum to a man who had frequently cheated on her, telling him to leave her for good. Ironically, Gunvor split with her boyfriend soon after her Eurovision appearance. Her song received the dreaded "nil points", perhaps undeservedly, as it was not the worst song in the contest. However, Gunvor had made a name for herself in the weeks leading up to the Eurovision, with a series of scandals, played upon by the Swiss magazine "Blick". She had spent time in a brothel, which she admitted she enjoyed, and had been thrown out, supposedly for exceeding the time limit with the men. Later, it was said that she was thrown out because she did not correspond to the owners' idea of beauty. Gunvor also refused to pay for products in shops, believing that she should be excused because of her celebrity status. Also, she and her boyfriend reportedly showered a Spanish waiter in a club with racial abuse, and refused to pay their drinks bill. Following her "nil point" defeat at Eurovision, Gunvor was picked apart by Swiss authorities, with one saying that they had much better ambassadors for their nation, and going on to give the names of several Swiss cyclists. With profound irony, all these cyclists were thrown out of the "Tour de France" only months later, in the worst drug scandal in the race's history.
