[edit] You don't want less work delivering the Newsletter?!?

You were once described as a policy wonk; you may or may not care for the title but it fits me like a glove. I subscribe to policy, since everyone is equal before it. If I don't like policy I try to change it, but I never ever subvert policy.

Some people who I admire and (worst of all) really, really like are doing that one thing. I have posted my thoughts and will now take a little break from the thinking and talking part of the Project. I will vandal patrol and help where I can on pages far away from contention, and I can always read the Newsletter over the shoulder of some peoples talk page. You are going to need a new contributor to said Newsletter too, since it revolves around the Project pages and I think it and I need a break from each other. I am saying the same things about the same people each month and it needs a fresh perspective. A couple of people have contributed to the news section on the last two issues, they may take on the job.

I need a bit of distance from the bollocks before I start taking it too seriously. It is a great Project, with great people doing great stuff, about a great band that deserves great articles, and has been great fun. When I feel I can get back into that swing then I will be back.

Thanks for the kind words, though. Thanks also for the patience and help this and past times. They are likely going to be abused in the future. Cheers. Mark 23:53, 17 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Sweden text

I worked very long on a text about Sweden as superpower, it took me time. I mostly wrote about the king Charles XII, and i was very satisfied, and i thought of doing the same kind of text about every important king during the swedish empire, but someone deleted everything i wrote about charles, so i wonder if it's any idea i spend time on doing long texts? maybe someone will delete it... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by HoJii (talkcontribs) 10:13, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Please find a proper place for your text first. If you write a long text on Charles XII, the proper place is the article about the king himself. Also, making suggestions first on the talk page before long edits is recommended. --Drieakko 14:26, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
How can I help? I'm not totally clear why this is on my page other than that I have been involved in trying to help make editing on Sweden harmonious. I note that HoJii (talk contribs count logs page moves block log email) has been warned about vandalising, subsequent to leaving this message. If I can be of further assistance in a specific matter please let me know. ++Lar: t/c 15:16, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Banning spoiler warnings on the Final Fantasy Wikiproject

Hello, I've noticed that you're interested in the video game articles. You might be interested in adding your opinion to the discussion currently taking place on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Final Fantasy#Banning spoiler warnings completely. Kariteh 21:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I don't have any previous background editing these and have no strong opinion one way or the other, I am fine with whatever consensus involved editors come up with and am not sure my opinion would add much. Thanks for letting me know though. ++Lar: t/c 15:09, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] About My Image... image:Kiss.png

Not trying to sound impolite, honestly, but are you trying to say that unless I can qualify it can be used under the whole GNU copyright thing, it will be deleted? Because I found that image while searching on Google but now I've found it in Wikipedia in another language, but I don't know which one. Plus, you crop that image and you get a perfect picture of Gene Simmons. So anyway, is that what your trying to say? MaulYoda 01:45, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

No. There was a previius image with this same name, of was two characters in a web comic kissing. (see Characters in Boy Meets Boy) My comments refer to that version. Your image was apparently uploaded on top of it, did you get a warning? Or, it was uploaded after that one was deleted? In that case you would have not gotten a warning.. I'd suggest a different name for it that is less generic... But your image may also be problematic as you do need to assert fair use for it, if you got it from a copyrighted source. ++Lar: t/c 10:47, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template help

Hi Lar, how are you?

There's a minor technical issue at User_talk:Kingboyk#id.3D.22toc.22 which I suspect you could help out with. Would you take a look please? --kingboyk 16:14, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arigato1 et al.

Hi Lar

Seeing that you are an admin, and that you've already been in contact with Arigato1, I was hoping that you might find the time to have another look at his edits. It's not getting any better. Arigato101 (talk · contribs) seems to be a fairly obvious sockpuppet. And based on the history of Tobias Sørenesen (article was deleted as I was in the middle of writing this), Tobias Sørensen (talk · contribs) seems to be another sockpuppet in addition to being a vandal-only account. (Arigato1 created the article, and Tobias removed a speedy-deletion tag from it.) Regards, Hemmingsen 18:51, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Tobias and Arigato1 blocked for 24 each. Ran (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves rights) blocked Arigato101 for 48 for being an obvious sock, I've left a message saying I'd rather go indef and will if he has no issue. Thanks for the heads up. ++Lar: t/c 00:00, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi Lar
It is unfortunate that this mess still goes on. Well, at least he read your message this time. "Lar din nar" means "Lar you fool." Thanks for still taking the time to deal with these incidents. Valentinian T / C 00:22, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Where was that? I missed it! any chance to learn my nordic languages is of value.. :) ++Lar: t/c 00:24, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
I just noticed his talk page before he blanked it again. Ok, you asked for it: "En nar" originally referred to the kind of fool that worked at court, in other words a jester. Lesson #1. Basic Danish grammar. "Nouns" (Navneord). In Danish a noun can be either commune (originally; either masculine or feminine; in both cases using the article "en") or neuter (using the article "et"). If the word is indefinite, a number simply precedes the noun ("en" also means "one"). If the word is definite, the article is affixed to the end of the noun: Examples: Singular: "a fool" = "en nar", "the fool" = "narren". Plural: "fools" = "narre", "the fools" = "narrene".
As you can see, the definite article "-en" (commune) or "-et" (neuter) is affixed to the end of the noun. Note the doubling of the "r". This happens in many nouns. A genitive is formed by adding -s to the word (without the English apostrophe): e.g. "The fool's flute is broken = "Narrens fløjte er brækket". but "The fools' hats are worn" = "Narrenes hatte er slidte". Danish verbs only distinguish between tense, not by person or number. So given that all these examples are in the present tense, all use the same verb: "er" which is the present tense form of "at være" which means "to be". :) Valentinian T / C 00:53, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted material recovery

Hello Lar! Can you recover the deleted article Janicism and send it to me by "email user"? Possibly Image:Janicism article.jpg too. I would like to obtain the copy just for reasons of curiosity to the controversy (also a funny controversy one can say). I promise I will not post it anywhere on Wikipedia. Thanks! Wooyi 19:30, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind, another admin has done it for me already, but Thanks anyways! Wooyi 22:42, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
OK... sorry I was a bit busy and did not get to this right away. Glad you're sorted. ++Lar: t/c 23:21, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arigato again again

Hi Lar

Could you arrange for somebody to do a checkuser on User:Worried user? I don't doubt for a second that this is the latest sock of Arigato1 / Comanche cph. This account has only made one edit, which was posting a provocative message to Arigato1's userpage stating that (quote) "I can't really tell if you're gay or bisexual, but don't worry, it is actually rather normal." [2](unquote) Arigato reverts this edit 11 minutes later with an edit summary saying: "Valentinian tries to provoke me with a new user in an attempt to smear you on your page. I can't tell if your're a Jew or gay. Get a life wanker." [3] This is becoming a farce. Valentinian T / C 20:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

You can make a request for a CU at WP:RFCU. Clerks there will help you get your request right. I'd supply the diffs to them so they know why. But the thing is, a single edit... ?? probably just best to block him again. And his sock. ++Lar: t/c 21:17, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Don't get me wrong, I hate red tape as much as the next man. I just find his smears tiresome. Regards. Valentinian T / C 21:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I agree. I'm going to think about this more. I need to write this up on AN/I I think, if we don't go the CU route. So I'm shying away from the red tape aspect of it too. If you do a CU, let me know will you? Thanks. And... I'm sorry that you're being targeted for this harassment. It has to stop, really. ++Lar: t/c 22:39, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Hey, if he thinks he scares me, he's doing a crappy job. Let's just say that if he expects me to collapse into a sea of tears, well, he shouldn't hold his breath on it. </rant> Personally, I hate red tape, but I guess AN/I might be an idea. It will provide some input anyway. If we do an AN/I will you do the actual set-up? Anyway, should we do a CU, I'll gladly authorise that somebody check me against the various accounts Arigato has accused of being my socks. The only thing in this entire experience that truly bothers me is that I'm constantly spamming your talk page. This is something I do feel rubbish about, and I have absolutely no wish to annoy your wiki-life, so please don't hesitate to say if you want me to go straight to WP:AN/I or somewhere else next time. I'd never think any less of your for saying so. Regards. Valentinian T / C 23:55, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Answered via email. ++Lar: t/c 00:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
One thing to say publicly though. I'm an admin and also I have background on this. I do not consider this sort of thing from a valuable established user such as yourself, Valentinian, to be "spam". Admins are here to serve, and people should feel comfortable asking for my help. If I can, I will give it. ++Lar: t/c 17:48, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

RFCUs for such obvious cases are almost certain go extract an "unnecessary" reply. No red tape is required, if the case is really obvious you just block the socks as they come in and hope the sockmaster gets tired of the game sooner rather than later. dab () 12:09, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

That's what one would think. The CU results in this case are not quite what one would have expected though. But socks are socks, and to a certain extent blocking an obvious sock without knowing exactly whose sock it is, is still perfectly fine by me. Which I will do as needed, or anyone else can (and should), as I'm on holiday for a bit... ++Lar: t/c 13:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Maná publicity still.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Maná publicity still.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 06:40, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I have added a {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, but the justification is quite weak, really, under our new stricter policy, and there is good reason to delete the image so I would have no issue if that is the outcome. ++Lar: t/c 13:50, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Impostor account

Just wanted to notify you about this. Valentinian T / C 11:58, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

It has been blocked by someone else. I may be a bit hard to reach the next 10 days though, so you may want to keep taking things to AN/I as you did. I will watch as I can though and will circle back once back. ++Lar: t/c 13:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
A similar account was created today on the Danish Wikipedia (da:Bruger:Valentinian) It is now blocked as well. I've told a Danish admin (da:Bruger:Kaare) about the situation here and asked him to contact you should he have any questions. I don't think he will, but just in case. Valentinian T / C 00:42, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. I see that action has been taken against Klovn as well... I have created an account on the Danish wikipedia to facilitate cross wiki communication but please do encourage Kaare to contact me with any concerns whatever! ++Lar: t/c 01:26, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
