I rewrote this page from scratch, so there is no longer any overlap with my previous publication on this topic. See Talk:Largest-Scale Trends in Evolution/Temp --Pdturney 16:45, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Although the page has been rewritten from scratch, the content does not constitute original research. The content only summarizes information from reliable published sources. --Pdturney 14:37, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
OR & merge
This essay falls under WP:OR as the statement by the author above indicates. If it survives, the content should be merged with Evolutionary progress (which also has the same OR problem) and the combined content merged into the Evolution article. Vsmith 14:23, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- The statement by the author above does not indicate that there is any original research in this essay. I believe that there is no original research in this essay. Please point to specific claims that you believe are original research. --Pdturney 14:33, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

- This isn't a kid with a website at geocities. It's not original research because it's based on published sources: the ones listed and Turney (2000). Turney (2000) definitely needs to be cited where appropriate. The article at present tends to state its arguments as if they are universally accepted and I suspect there may be some who would argue agains them (such as Gould). The best approach would be to add qualifiers along the lines of "Turney (2000) argues that..." --Aranae 17:28, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for the vote of confidence. I don't think anything I've said would offend Gould (if he were still alive). I'm trying to be neutral about whether there are large-scale trends. So far, nothing I've written here is based on any original claims in Turney (2000). Please tell me specifically which claims require citations. --Pdturney 18:50, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
