Larry W. Womble

Larry W. Womble is a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's seventy-first House district, including constituents in Forsyth county. A retired educator from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Womble is currently (2006-2007) serving in his seventh term in the state House.

Womble was born June 6, 1941 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and attended Forsyth County public schools. He earned a B.S. degree in Education at Winston-Salem State University in 1963, and then attended the University of North Carolina - Greensboro where he earned a Master of Education degree in Administration (and a Principal's Certificate) in 1975. He later earned an Ed.S. in Administration and an Advanced Principals Certificate from Appalachian State University in 1977.

Womble launched his political career at the age of 40, with his election to the Winston-Salem Board of Aldermen. He served on the Board until 1993, and was elected to the North Carolina General Assembly in 1995. Womble is known for his engaging speeches and commitment to public education.

Recently, Representative Womble has been the center of a controversy involving him buying a 2002 Ferarri 360 Spider. It is estimated that the car is worth around $170,000, which has raised some questions because Womble only receives around a $20,000 salary from his job as a North Carolina Legislator. However, it is assumed that since Womble has been a working professional for at least 45 years, he is more than able to afford a car for $170,000.
