Larry Kissell (born January 31, 1951) is a American social studies teacher, former textile worker, and was the Democratic Party nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives seat in the Eighth Congressional district of North Carolina [1], in the 2006 elections. The Eighth district stretches from Charlotte to Fayetteville. Robin Hayes, a Republican, has held the Eighth District seat since 1999. Kissell won the May 2006 Democratic Party primary. [2]
The outcome of the November 2006 general election was in doubt for several weeks, as recounts had to be conducted due to the close margin. [3] Kissell officially wound up losing by 329 votes. He conceded the race on November 29, 2006 and immediately announced plans to run again in 2008.[4]
Kissell is a frequent poster at Daily Kos. [5]
