Larry Dooley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Larry Dooley was an Australian boxer, however his name is best known as a popular colloquial term. It is usually used as a verb at the end of a sentence such as to give it a bit of a Larry Dooley, meaning to exert extra effort. The term is often used by Australian cricket commentator Richie Benaud when describing an aggressive batsman.[1]
After hitting a six to reach his century in the 2006 Boxing Day Test Match, Andrew Symonds said in a press conference:
“ | I was thinking 'should I do this in ones or if he sits one up there should I give it some Larry Dooley? I decided that if he slipped one up there I'd give it some Larry Dooley.[2] | ” |
