Larkfield, Greenock

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Larkfield is the largest council housing estate in south-west Greenock, Scotland.

It is named after Larkfield Farm, and confusingly there are two Larkfield Roads nearby. One is in Gourock heading towards Larkfield itself. The other is in Greenock and runs parallel to Inverclyde Royal Hospital. #The main road through the estate is Burns Road - all of Larkfield lower than Burns Road is known as the 'bottom end' with everything above it the 'top end'. Larkfield Primary and Sacred Heart Primary Schools are both situated in Larkfield as was Springfield until recently. St Andrew's Church is on Auchmead Road, as is Ravenscraig, Inverclyde's athletics stadium, home to Greenock Juniors Football Club.

Local residents have formed a community safety forum and are working together to combat the negative image associated with the area. With the support of local councillors and staff from Larkfield HA they have managed various community events and been influential in getting resources into the area to combat ASB and crime. Like many other communities across the country they are faced with disolussioned youths and social problems, but through their efforts they have decreased the number of incidents and restored pride in their area.
