Lara Roxx is the stage name of a Montreal, Quebec-born Canadian porn actress, who, in March 2004, became the first known individual in four years to contract HIV while making a US porn video. The film was subsequently released under the title Split That Booty 2 although Roxx's appearance was not included in the film.[1]
[edit] Career
Roxx, while 21, was exposed to HIV while doing a double-anal penetration scene with Darren James and Mark Anthony on March 24, 2004. She had filmed her first-ever anal scene with Darren James on 10 February. Roxx said that she had relied on the industry's HIV standards to ensure her safety. Because double-anal penetration involves so much stretching and tearing of tissues, conditions were ideal for Roxx to contract the deadly virus. The fact that the scene was her first double-anal increased the risk significantly.
James and Roxx have been banned from any further porn production in the US. At the end of April 2004, it was confirmed that Jessica Dee and Miss Arroyo, after having worked with James, also tested positive for HIV.
Roxx, on learning about James being HIV-positive, said, "It totally made me realize how I trusted this system that wasn't to be trusted at all, because it obviously doesn't work," and "I thought porn people were the cleanest people in the world."
This outbreak, the first in four years, led to a voluntary moratorium on porn production for 30 days (60 days was originally announced), starting in April 2004, while it confirmed all possible contacts among porn performers. No adult video production companies were required to comply.
Recently, various sources have now said that Lara Roxxx was actually "Patient Zero" in 2004.
From Gene Ross's column on Adultfyi.com: 'From I've been suggesting to people all along that Lara Roxx, not Darren James, is Patient Zero in this whole HIV flap. And Wankus' interview with Dick Tracey Friday night on KSEX, www.ksexradio.com gives me even more reason to believe that."[2].
For one thing, Tracey lends credence to the Roxx ass picture that has appeared on Adultfyi.com- the one where Roxx's anal tract appears to be housing a leper colony. Roxx is claiming she got that rash the day after she worked with Darren James which is utter nonsense. Roxx had that condition the day she worked with James, and here's what Tracey had said to Wankus.
Noting that he hasn't worked with any of the people who's worked with the people on the quarantine list, Tracey said he got lucky in that instance. "But I've got a fucked up story," said Tracey, referring to Roxx. Tracey said he could have worked with Roxx approximately the time she worked with James, that Roxx was a step-in for another girl who didn't show up.
"She showed up on set and me being the picky bastard that I am, I'm, who the fuck is this? This wasn't the girl I was supposed to work with." Tracey's woman Cailley Taylor who was also on The Wanker Show piped in by saying that Roxx was ugly and that's why Tracey had his reservations. Tracey said another girl was also on the set talking to Roxx in the dressing room. Tracey was called over and the girl pulled Roxx's pants down. "She [Roxx] had lesions."
Tracey said he saw the picture on Adultfyi.com and confirmed that was Roxx. "When I saw that I said no fucking way am I working with that. I called Aria who was down the street. She saved my fucking life. I called her up and she came over and did the scene." Wankus said he had been told that Roxx had been turned down by other male performers, noting her condition but that James said he didn't give a fuck because he was known to have herpes anyway. "This is what I heard."
This also led to the possible regulation of the industry by the government. Most porn industry insiders oppose this regulation, feeling it could seriously jeopardize their business. Some regulations could force the industry underground, which would only expose actors to increased risk. Since this is the first outbreak in four years, many industry insiders feel that the current regulations monitored by the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation are sufficient. Some feel that some further voluntary regulations, such as temporarily quarantining actors who appear in adult films produced outside the US, may be sufficient to prevent further outbreaks.
Adult Video News is collecting donations to assist Roxx. Famous porn star Jenna Jameson spearheaded a fundraising campaign to help porn industry workers suffering financial hardships from both the quarantine and the production moratorium.
To date Roxx has only been offered $1500.00 from the fundrasing campaign started by Jameson, and now has begun collecting donations for her own foundation, the Lara Roxx foundation (www.lararoxxfoundation.org) The Lara Roxx Foundation is committed to:
- Spread awareness and provide proper care to people living with HIV/ AIDS - Working to prevent further propagation of the AIDS virus (HIV). - Helping people with the right solutions to rise above. - Demystifying HIV and AIDS.
In 2007 on an Episode Of The Maury Povich Show. Lara came on to talk to Wild Teens about her past and to help them prevent making the mistakes she made where she would catch HIV.
