Lara Cardella

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lara Cardella (born November 13, 1969 in Licata, Italy) is an Italian writer. Her first book Volevo i pantaloni, written when she was nineteen, caused a scandal in the small Sicilian community where she lived because it fiercely criticized what she perceived as the backwardness, chauvinism and parochialism of modern Sicily.

The controversy surrounding the book helped make it a bestseller in Italy and it has been published in translation across the rest of Europe. It was published in English as Good Girls Don't Wear Trousers.

A film of Volevo i pantaloni came out in 1990.

Novels published since then include Una ragazza normale, Intorno a Laura & Fedra se ne va but none of these has matched the success of her first novel.
