Lapta (Russian: лапта) is a Russian ball game, similar to Brännboll, Rounders, baseball, and pesäpallo . It has been played in Russia since 14th century [1].

Lapta is played on a field of size 20 by 25 sazhens, or about 140 by 175 feet. The edges of the field are marked with parallel lines, and a third line is marked between the edges; these lines are called "salo", and they are like baseball's bases. Players would divide into teams of five to ten players. One player would throw a ball toward a member of the other side, who would try to hit it with a lapta stick (bat) and then run to the opposite side and back before the thrower's team could retrieve the ball and hit him with it.
