Lapseki

Lapseki (Greek: Λάμψακος Lampsakos) is a town and district of Çanakkale Province, Turkey.

The town was founded by Greek colonists from Phocaea in the 6th century BC. Soon afterwards it became a main competitor of Miletus, controlling the trade roots in the Dardanelles. The modern Turkish name derives from the original Greek name. Now 8,000 people live in Lapseki, but in the summer season it becomes 20,000. In Turkey this district is famous with its very big and delicious cherries.The cherry festivals are made in Lapseki.

People from big cities(Istanbul,Ankara,Bursa) come to Lapseki in summer season.
