Hello, and welcome to my user page!

My name is Alexandre, and I often go by the name of Laogeodritt on internet communities. I am a high school student currently living in Québec, Canada.

I aspire to study in medicine. However, I have many other interests and passions beyond that. These include drawing, music (performance, especially in orchestra, and composition), writing, linguistics, computer science, programming and web design, anime and manga, martial arts, and others.

While I am not part of any major project nor have I contributed significantly to Wikipedia, I have long used it as a primary source of general information. Being that I'm not much for certain aspects of the essay-writing process and that most major subjects on Wikipedia have been covered, I probably won't work much on new articles or expanding them, but instead, I'll be doing copy editing, WikiGnoming as I browse Wikipedia, translating articles from other wikis, etc.

I speak English and French natively and can also speak some Spanish, have begun studying Japanese somewhat, and know various bits and pieces of other languages.

The genres of music I like lie especially in classical, orchestral, video game and film soundtrack music; I also like some symphonic metal, progressive rock/metal, and very little pop (mostly Jpop). Composers/artists/bands I like include Nobuo Uematsu, Yuki Kajiura, Motoi Sakuraba, Michiru Oshima, Ko Otani, Klaud Badelt, John Williams, Howard Shore, Evanescence, Dream Theater, Apocalyptica, and Nightwish (more when Turunen was still lead vocalist).

Movies I have liked particularly include The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Last Samurai and the Star Wars movies. As for anime, among my favourites are Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, AIR and Elfen Lied.

Books and book series I like include The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Tunnels of Time, Artemis Fowl, and One Child.

I consider myself proficient in XHTML and CSS; I am moderately proficient in PHP though not at all in MySQL; I know enough Javascript for basic use on webpages; I'm currently learning C++.

As far as musical instruments go, I can play violoncello (5 years experience), clarinet (3 years), flute (since October 2007), trumpet (since around May 2007) and piano (3 years).

I have been drawing for some four years (mostly manga style); I do not consider myself very proficient, but passable. I am also interested in writing fiction prose (especially science-fiction and fantasy). I equally enjoy composing music; however, my knowledge in music theory is lacking. I am a beginner at best.

I consider grammar, spelling and punctuation to be essential and value it highly.
