[edit] full back
Nice additions to the soccer section on full back - thanks. I dabbed that in very quickly because someone had written a page that was exclusively about American football, which was obviously intolerable - but my knowledge of the modern game is about zero. It's now rather a nice page, and it would be good if we had similar comparative pages on other positions that exist in the different codes. seglea 18:48, 28 May 2004 (UTC)
- Cheers seglea. I agree it would be nice to have pages for the other positions. And there are a lot of sport-based pages that are very U.S.-centric; I've also been trying to broaden the scope of a few of them. --Lancevortex 12:22, 6 Jun 2004 (UTC)
I've deleted the erroneous category, by the way. Dysprosia 13:18, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Cheers Dysprosia! --Lancevortex 13:58, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Michael Johnson (athlete)
Hi! In my opinion, the shorter versions (that is without minute and second tags) look better and are more encyclopaedian-like. If You want to revert it, then please do it. -- Gh
- Hi! I keep this in mind in the future articles, but right now almost all the articles in Olympic medalists in athletics (men) and Olympic medalists in athletics (women) have the shorter versons. Anyway, this is probalbly one of the discussion point to decide the standard layout of times, results etc. and we should catch some more contributors of sport articles to this. -- Gh
[edit] Category:English pronunciation
Many thanks for catching my spelling error so quickly! I'm in the process of subcategorizing Category:English language, and I would've felt twelve kinds of stupid if I'd misspelled the category name for all the articles that will go inside it. :-) • Benc • 10:08, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Nice Work
Hey, nice work in cleaning up the Football managers' categories.
[edit] The Humungous Image Tagging Project
Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

- Quoth: I am happy for my work (mostly spelling corrections anyway) to be used by anyone. Does using one of the templates suggested cover this?
- Spelling corrections *may* not be considered to be copyrightable under U.S. law because they may be considered to be too trivial, but let's just assume that they are. Since spelling corrections are minor (not in terms of importance!), I would recommend just releasing them into the public domain, then they will be unrestricted and useable by anyone. The "MultiLicensePD" template does this. If this is not good enough for you let me know and I can suggest something else. Using one of the other templates will just restrict your contributions to two licenses instead of one license. – Ram-Man (comment) (talk)[[]] 13:53, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] List of names in English with non-intuitive pronunciations
Hi Angr, just noticed that you changed the SAMPA pronunciations on List of names in English with non-intuitive pronunciations to IPA, citing Wikipedia preferences as your rationale. Could you point me in the direction of the page where this policy is outlined? I'm personally very much against this change (largely because it's a total pain to edit) and would like to argue against it -- only problem is, I can't find where the policy is defined! Thanks, Lancevortex 10:11, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Lancevortex, the policy is stated at International_phonetic_alphabet#Wikipedia_usage and SAMPA#Wikipedia_usage. Personally I like the policy because SAMPA is a total pain to read. Editing with the IPA is a lot easier if you do the editing in Microsoft Word vel sim. and then paste into Wikipedia. There's also WikiTeX if you know how to use it (I don't). --Angr 10:50, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] IPA notice
Exactly why are you giving so much prominence to the IPA notice - e.g. on Motörhead? Is not the (IPA) link immediately preceeding / 'məʊtəhɛd/ enough? IMO, the notice is way over the top, a completely unnecessary conceit. YMMV, of course. --Tagishsimon (talk)
[edit] Duplication in Reading article
Hi. You write:
- Hi Chris, the last couple of times you've edited the Reading, Berkshire article, you've managed to introduce duplication of entire sections. I've undone this, but you may wish to check a) that your intended edits are still there and b) what's going on to make the duplication happen. --Lancevortex 10:09, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Many thamks for undoing the damage. I'm mystified as to how it happened, although in both cases I got an edit conflict dialog even though there was no sign of anyone else editing the article. I was editing a section, but the upper box that you are supposed to edit displayed the whole article. It looks as if it then inserted the content of that box into the article as if it were just a section. Hence everything but the section being edited got duplicated. I guess I'll just have to stop editing at section level. -- Chris j wood 22:46, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the proofing of History - I was a little tired when I typed it. Oldfarm 12:25, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Apostolic Council and Council of Jerusalem
These pages sure could use some help, perhaps you're interested?
[edit] Wikiproject Years Survey
Hi. To get everybody thinking, I've created a survey about Year pages here. I'm telling all the participants of WikiProject Years and everyone else who has shown an interest in year pages or participated in the discussion. If you could check it out it would be appreciated, and tell anyone you think may be interested. Trevor macinnis 18:41, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Help
Shot in the dark, noticed your edit on Motorhead - two Motorhead singles I fully believe deserve their own places are up for VfD (after I undid redirects from live singles to album singles, the author of the redirects immediately put both up for VfD), it'll ruin the timeline and incomplete the discography, would you help by voting to keep if you feel so inlclined. Ace of Spades (song; live) and Motörhead (song; live) are ther ones in question Alf 12:14, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
- D'oh, must check my copy paste edits better, thanks for spotting that bad DVD title. Alf 19:49, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, no worries over the umlaut then, I thought I'd lost it due to my shoddy workmanship, you're right, 'tis covered enough already. Alf 09:38, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 1970s
Hi Lance,
Thanks for your comments on my talk page. I've got a thing at the moment about the massive American bias in Wikipedia, so I keep trying to redress the balance all over the place; making it more international. Arcturus 18:54, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Template: England national football team manager
Hi there, I noticed you created Template:England national football team manager about a year ago. I have noticed that is the same as Template:Succession box, with an extra parameter that is never used, which means it's effectively a duplicate. Therefore for consistency and layouting's sake I have replaced all instances of it with Template:Succession box and nominated it for deletion at Templates for Deletion. If you don't agree with my proposal then please comment there. Qwghlm 17:03, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ahoy!
I noticed that you are the one who started the article on the M11 link road protest a while (years!) ago. I've been doing a lot of work on this article lately (54 edits so far, see edit history), and I definitely think it has the potential for a good article or featured article, and I definitely need your help in making it this good. I fear that my edits may have deadened the prose somewhat, and given that you have a background with the M11 protest movement, I think that you may have a lot of useful sourceable information that could make this article as great at it deserves to be. Yours, Lewis Collard! (natter) 20:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
(BTW, I was way too young to be involved in the movement when I was in that area. I lived in Woodford, and I I do very clearly remember passing by Claremont Road at the time of its destruction. And I'm something of a Hayekian conservative (and, oddly, very sympathetic to the strong, intimate communities that I have read about in my research about Claremont Road, and think that in the truly radical left there's a conservativism waiting to get out, but that is a whole 'nother political-philosophical story...) so maybe our POVs will balance each others out a bit. :)
- Hi Collard. Nice work on the article. I'm not sure how much I'm able to help. I don't have sources for what I wrote beyond my memory, and probably a lot of the stuff I put in should strictly speaking be removed as unverified. The article's still on my watchlist, and I'll continue to glance at it from time to time to check for any outrageous edits! --Lancevortex 11:18, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- Delayed reply: Thanks for the compliment. If there's not a lot more you think you can do, then so be it (though your prose is still somewhat better than mine). Though I'm glad that, as original author, you approve of the latest batch of changes. :D Lewis Collard! (natter) 07:12, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion???
I am puzzled as to why you would nominate my article for speedy deletion. I have followed underground British hip-hop and grime for the last 10 years, and any artist who has won Kennet Awards, usually has huge success (eg. The Streets & Dizzee Rascal). G-Star has released 2 mixtapes (available at some HMV stores) and is shortly releasing his debut album. His 1st single went in at #49 in the UK Charts, and was considered for the Need For Speed soundtrack. What else does it take to show that this artist is famous enough to stay on Wiki? I'm unsure whether it was you or not, but the article "G-Star" has been deleted, and the last name on the log was yours.
I'd appreciate your help with this. Please reply to my talk page

[edit] Re: Lemmy
Hey, Lence, thanks for fixing that typo I have made. I don't know what I was thinking that day to go base instead of bass. Thanks a lot, man :) MarkMarek 17:16, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- No worries. I won't point out that the name is Lance ;). Nice pics on the Motorhead page, by the way. Lancevortex (talk) 18:39, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oh my goodness, haha. That's embarrassing. Sorry about that one. PS – this time around I spell checked the “embarrassing” just in case. Glad you liked the pics. Thanks a lot :o) MarkMarek 18:50, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AfD nomination of Music and politics
Music and politics, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Music and politics satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Music and politics and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Music and politics during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion.
