[edit] German English

Sorry, but who translated Hauptmann into "head man"???? - the correct form must be captain from Latin caput = Haupt. If You try to translate Landeshauptmann literally it would be "state captain" (see lieutenant isn't only a military rank but the term for "a person instead" - from Latin locus tenens. So the representative of H. M. The Queen is the Lord Lieutenant, translated into German as: Lord-Statthalter)

[edit] First

Wow, how awful. This article is entirely about gender-specific naming, and not at all about what the office entails. john k 23:52, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Well, but we should be glad that no dispute about the title of the page has arisen yet, since it is not gender-neutral :-) Martg76 00:20, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] What a heavy update!

now the article is about 3 pages! BUT, i think its worthless. (f. e. the starting: or "Landeshauptmänner as in Styria till 1861" bullshit. there is a plural "landeshauptleute" BUT ofcouse U CAN ALSO SAY "landeshauptmänner".)

and ALL this "content" (haha), i think its just to "justify" this silly "landeshauptfrau"-term. ridiculous. thanx, Enlarge 15:08, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] this is just horrible

sorry for starting a new discussion about this. i don't see too much text about gender-specific naming a problem (it actually was a topic in austria when a woman got the position for the first time - and then refused to be called Landeshauptfrau, contrary to the second; actually i think it even was one of the most discussed aspects of the landeshauptleute of austria in the last decade).

no, the problem i see with this article: this is not an article, this is a list. and then even a list, where austria's (which is the only country where this title seems to be still used) landeshauptleute are just listed until up to 1918. while present austrian landeshauptleute just got a short abstract.

my suggestion: completely revamp the article, with emphasis on today's austrian landeshauptleute (their competences etc.), with a short text about southern tyrol and history. --Forgivememydear 23:12, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
